Anker recalls more than 1.1 million power banks after fires, injuries, and property damages are reported

Power BankThis is another huge recall involving lithium-ion batteries.

Anker Innovations is recalling about 1,158,000 power banks because the lithium-ion battery in the power banks can overheat, posing fire and burn risks to consumers.

Anker has received 19 reports of fires and explosions, including two reports of minor burn injuries not requiring medical attention and 11 reports of property damage costing more than $60,700.

The recall involves Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks with model number A1263.  Consumers can check their serial number on Anker’s website  to determine if their power bank is included in the recall.

The power banks were sold online at Anker, Amazon, Newegg, and eBay from June 2016 through December 2022. The cost was about $27.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and contact Anker for free replacement, the company and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advise. Visit https://www.anker.com/product-recalls to register for the recall. To receive a replacement, consumers need to submit a photo of the recalled power bank showing the model number, serial number, their name, the date of the photograph, and the word “recalled” written on the power bank in permanent marker.

The recalled lithium-ion battery or device shouldn’t be thrown in the trash or in placed in general recycled streams. Recalled lithium-ion batteries need to be disposed of differently than other batteries, because they present a greater risk of fire. Contact your local government for guidance.
