Top Mother’s Day gifts this year

The average person celebrating Mother’s Day is expected to spend $140.73 on gifts, up from $126.90 last year, according to the National Retail Federation. That’s a return to 2008 spending levels. Total spending is expected to reach $16.3 billion.

Here are the most popular gifts for mom this year, with the percentage of people planning to buy the item, according to the federation:

  • Tulips Pink BigA Flowers – 64.9 percent
  • Brunch or dinner – 54.7 percent
  • Clothing or accessories – 31.8 percent
  • Jewelry – 31.2 percent
  • Electronics – 13.3 percent

Consumers will also spend $1.6 billion on gift cards and $1.2 billion on personal services such as a trip to a day spa.
