What’s your favorite Mother’s Day memory?

By Rita R. Robison

It’s difficult to pick out my favorite Mother’s Day memory.

There’s the first Mother’s Day with my new, beautiful baby. And I remember how much fun it was to come home from college, more appreciative of my mom, Ruth L. Slingsby, as I was becoming a grownup. Ruth at 16 Then, after my dad passed away and my mom was in the nursing home, each year she was here I celebrated with her with great feelings on Mother’s Day.

One time for Mother’s Day, my daughters gave me a green pepper. They were about age 5 and 7. Each received a quarter, and they scoured the grocery store for something I’d like.

Now I have grandchildren. Nothing beats getting a G-mom card. That’s when the twins were about 5 and couldn’t spell grandmother yet.

I have been truly blessed. I received good values from my mom and dad, values about helping people and my community. I was extremely lucky to get two exceptional daughters. Now I have three grandchildren. Life couldn’t get any better.

What are your favorite Mother’s Day memories? Do the restaurants and presents blend together in a general memory? Or, do certain Mother’s Days stand out as among the best times in your life? Let me know in the Comment section below.

  1. My kids are 7 and I feel so lucky to get the homemade gifts they make for me at school. We took them to the zoo on Mother’s Day this year (it’s one week earlier where we live, in Spain) and my son said he wanted to walk with me and hold my hand since it was Mother’s Day. I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate Mother’s Day!
