More illnesses are being confirmed in an outbreak of Salmonella traced to eggs from Rose Acre Farms. The farm has now recalled more than 207 million eggs.
Since the outbreak was announced on April 16, public health officials have reported a dozen more cases of Salmonella infection to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of Thursday, 35 people in nine states have been confirmed with Salmonella Braenderup, with 11 victims admitted to hospitals. No deaths have been reported. The states involved include Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The brands of eggs being recalled include the Great Value brand sold by Walmart, Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Great Value, Nelms, Publix, Sunshine Farms, and Sunups.
Rose Acre Farms sold eggs to restaurants, as well as shipping them to grocery stores.
Consumers should check their eggs for a plant number of P-1065 and a Julian date between 011 and 102 or a plant number P-1359D and Julian date 048A or 049A with Best By dates of APR 02 and APR 03.
If anyone has the recalled eggs in their home, they shouldn’t eat them but throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for credit or refund.
After the recalled eggs are disposed of, action should be taken such as washing and sanitizing refrigerators where the eggs were stored.
Inspectors found multiple violations of federal food safety regulations at the Rose Acre Farms facility. The investigation is ongoing.
