Verizon offers $20 for network outage, but you need to request it through an app

On Jan. 14, Verizon customers experienced a widespread outage that disrupted service throughout the United States.

The outage lasted up to 10 hours in some areas. Thousands of customers were unable to make calls, send texts, or access data services, a big disruption since people these days rely so much on their phones.

Verizon said on its website that it will provide a $20 account credit that can be obtained by logging into the myVerizon app. Customers will receive a text message when the credit is available in the app, adding business customers will be contacted directly about their credits.

Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence our customers expect and that we expect of ourselves,” the company said.

Of the credit, Verizon said, on average, it covers multiple days of service.

“This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened,” the company said. “No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging our customers’ time and showing that this matters to us.”

Verizon advised customers if they were still experiencing issues, they should restart their devices to reconnect to the network.

“We are sorry for what you experienced and will continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that people expect from Verizon,” the company said.

Final thoughts

It seems Verizon should just give its customers the $20 credit, if not more. It seems they are just trying to save money, and it makes their policy seem insincere.
