Over the years, I’ve written many times about kids getting their hands blown off from fireworks. It’s already happened in my state this year. A 14-year-old lost his left hand and injured his other hand while reportedly playing with fireworks in Federal Way, Washington. A firework had blown up in the teen’s hand.
On the 4th of July, Americans typically celebrate the anniversary of their independence with parades, fireworks displays, family gatherings, beach trips, and more. Celebrations during the past two years have been dampened due to the covid-19 pandemic. However, this year the country has few restrictions so celebrations are picking up.
Sienhua Group is recalling about 580,000 WarmWave and Hunter oscillating ceramic tower heaters in the United States and about 37,580 in Canada. The ceramic tower heater’s cord and plug can overheat when in use, posing fire and burn risks. The firm has received eight customer reports of fire at the plug or cord.
Schneider Electric is recalling about 1.4 million Square D QO Plug-on-Neutral load centers, also known as breaker boxes and electrical panels, in the United States and 289,000 in Canada. The electric panels can overheat, posing thermal burn and fire risks. The firm has received one report of an incident of a loose wire.
The CPSC is warning consumers not to use infant rockers for sleep due to suffocation risk, after 14 deaths were reported in Fisher-Price and Kids2 infant rockers. At least 13 infants died between 2009 and 2021 in Fisher-Price rockers and at least one infant died in a Kids2 rocker in 2009.
Hisense USA is recalling about 55,200 French door refrigerators with ice maker in the United States and 78 in Canada. The refrigerator’s door hinge can break causing the door to detach when the consumer tries to open the French doors, posing an impact injury risk to the consumer.
Electrolux is recalling about 367,500 Frigidaire and Electrolux Side-by-Side, Top Freezer, and Multi-door refrigerators in the United States and about 7,180 were in Canada. The ice level detector arm in the ice maker can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, posing a choking risk.
DGL Group is recalling about 93,000 Hover-1 Superfly hoverboards. A software malfunction in the electrical system can cause continued movement when the rider isn’t controlling the hoverboard, posing fall and injury risks. The company has received 29 reports of the software issue.
On Memorial Day, I’m remembering my uncle Frank Gilliam who died at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. I’m also remembering my uncles Richard Telecky and Orval Telecky who also served in World War II. While President Biden will speak today and parades will be held, processing losses is difficult.
