Why did I have my yard work helper pick out my grave?

My daughters are runners, and when they come and visit, they run through a cemetery that’s about 10 blocks from where I live. Recently, they’ve been after me to pick out my grave. Mona even stopped by the office and brought me a map of the different sections of the cemetery.

I don’t watch much television. Although I analyze the Academy Award nominated movies each year for violence and sexism, I think TV, generally, is a wasteland. I listen to National Public Radio during the day, then try to find something on cable TV to watch in the evening that isn’t too violent.

In 1973, Congress designated Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day. The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. It was the end of a movement, beginning in 1848 at the first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York.

One thing I’ve noticed about being an older adult is that you lose friends and relatives, and the older you get, the more often people your age pass away. Last week, my former husband died. At the left is our wedding photo. Divorced in 1986, we were married for 23 years and had two daughters.

Be covid-safe this Memorial Day weekend

Everyone is getting covid it seems: Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, and Stephen Colbert, and even the governor and lieutenant governor of Washington state where I live. Why are so many people getting covid now, I wonder? In the Seattle area, about half of people are wearing masks, more or less.
