I’m the host this week for the Best of Boomer Blogs #348.
As the rain pours down in the Seattle area, filling the rivers with water, and many areas of the country are digging out of the snow, baby boomer bloggers are busy writing about the challenges of midlife.
Karen D. Austin, blogging at The Generation Above Me, teaches classes in Aging Studies that include well-known psychologists’ work on aging. These authors define midlife as somewhere between 30 and 65. Austin’s observations about the baby boomers convince her that they’re pushing the upper limit of midlife into the 70s. She prefers a functional definition for life stages, anyway. See Austin’s blog article, “When Does Midlife Start and End?” for a list of tasks often performed at midlife.
Laura Lee Carter of the Midlife Crisis Queen is having a moving experience lately and not in a good way. Here she waxes philosophical on “Moving, Meaning, and Legacy.”
Bart Drolenga of The Highway Is My Home remembers Alabama bluesman Willie King, who sadly passed away five years ago. Willie King became a friend and inspiration to Drolenga and his wife Saskia when they spent three months filming King for the documentary “Down in the Woods.”
Amy Blitchok of the Modern Senior writes about how the entertainment and business worlds are taking notice of the potential influence and buying power of the Baby Boomer Generation. Just think about this year’s Oscars and the number of mature actors who were nominated for great performances. Who would have thought that Hollywood would be helping to steer America away from its obsession with youth? Businesses that cater to the wants and needs of boomers are also popping up all over the Internet. Take, for example, the new ecommerce site, theboomshop. Visit the Modern Senior to check out Blitchok’s review of the site and get a coupon.
On my blog, I write about the proposal by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to update nutrition labels on packaged foods. The label would include new information about serving sizes to better reflect how much people really eat. In addition, it would feature a design to highlight key parts of the label such as calories and serving sizes.
Be sure to visit the blogs of these hard working boomer bloggers and give them a comment about their articles. And, tune in next week to see what boomer bloggers are writing about.
