To settle a class action lawsuit, Apple has agreed to pay $25 million to settle charges it misled some iPhone users about AI features that were advertised but weren’t available or were delayed.
People who purchased some of the iPhone 15 and 16 models may receive $25 to $95 per phone.
The settlement needs to be approved by a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, where class action lawsuits were consolidated.
The lawsuit alleged Apple’s AI platform for the iPhone 16 phones in 2024 wasn’t available when the phones went on the market although the feature was heavily advertised.
The lawsuit claimed that many consumers were disappointed and felt misled, stating they wouldn’t have purchased or upgraded to the iPhone 16 if they’d known the truth about the AI features.
The settlement, if approved, would apply to customers who bought iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 models between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
While Apple settled the lawsuit to avoid further legal disputes, it didn’t admit to any wrongdoing. Apple wants to remain focused on “delivering the most innovative products and services” to customers, the company said in a statement.
